Let events be the source of truth Anyone who knows me (professionally at least) knows I love event sourcing as a general practice when designing applications. We have been using a modified version of event sourcing at Octopus for a couple of years now to manage our industry processes, which often resemble a conversation between us and multiple third parties.

I was recently working on a project implementing a HTTP REST framework with mutual TLS JWS message encryption, requiring lots of certificate requests. I know I’ll forget this next time I need to do it, so this serves as a note to self.

Smartmeters are great. They save you having to give your energy supplier readings every month and they have flashy screens where you can see your usage in real time, in 30 minute intervals. It doesn’t seem like much now, but using this new technology and data can unlock a whole new way to use the energy system.

I’ve been using notion as a note taking app for a while, but had never really dived too much into details of it. I used a couple of tables (which had already improved my life tenfold) but other than that had no idea how powerful a tool it could be. One night I sat down to improve my workflow and discovered a new way of using Notion.

I recently embarked on building this site in Hugo for its simplicity, ease of use and it’s excellent range of features for extension. I really want a portfolio I can use to play with new technologies and actually make something people can play with. I really like Digital Ocean in general and noticed their new ‘Apps’ feature supported a Hugo site (which was recommended to me by a colleage).
